Course Objectives

This course is designed to help you:

  1. Define aging and long term care.
  2. Become familiar with relevant aging and long term care definitions as well as demographic information.
  3. Obtain information that includes but is not limited to, the biological, social, and psychological aspects of aging.
  4. Learn the psychological impact of aging.
  5. Describe the relationship between aging, culture and stigma.
  6. Distinguish between long term and alternative types of care.
  7. Increase familiarity with Elder and Dependent Abuse warning signs and reporting.
  8. Become familiar with principles and techniques used in counseling the elderly.
  9. Identify relevant issues and clinical implications in coping with aging.
  10. Become familiar with the clinical implications and issues surrounding the elderly and substance abuse.
  11. Identify and access relevant resources.
