Mental Health Disorders in the United States: Prevalence, Access to Care, and Clinical Implications CE Course objectives, description, and outline
Course Objectives:
- Describe at least two current national and state-level prevalence rates of adult and youth mental health disorders, including major depressive episodes, substance use disorders, and suicidal ideation, as reported in recent U.S. population-based surveillance data.
- Identify at least one key barrier to mental health and substance use treatment access in the United States, including insurance limitations, unmet treatment needs, workforce shortages, and disparities in preventive care utilization.
- Describe at least two population-level mental health findings to clinical practice considerations, including early identification, risk assessment, treatment engagement, and awareness of systemic factors that influence patient access to care.
Course Description:
This report provides a state-level snapshot of mental health needs, access to care, and outcomes in the U.S. The findings are meant to help inform policy and program planning, analysis, and evaluation. This report is a companion to the online interactive data on the MHA website (www.mhanational.org/issues/state-mental-health-america). The data and tables include state and national data.
