Why do we look for happiness or even love in the same place we lost it? I suppose it’s because we once found it there and are attempting to recapitulate. Recapitulation in this sense refers to recreating and even or relationship. Many seek to recapitulate an event or relationship that initially brought them happiness only to discover that this is no longer possible. Disenchantment and disappointment almost certainly ensues.
Happiness is defined as ” happy.
It’s important to recognize that some events and/or relationships that we believe once brought us happiness can no longer be sustained. Remember, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Most of the time we can safely include recent past behavior as a likely predictor of future behavior. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that happiness is always possible at it’s original source. People, situations, and relationships change and so does the corresponding level of happiness accordingly. Happiness is a transitory emotional state regardless and is unlikely to persist in any given situation or relationship.
