Solution Focused Brief Therapy Course Objectives, Description, and Outline

Course Objectives:
  1. Identify conversations that leads towards change with their clients that are based on outcomes and not problems.
  2. Implement the comment techniques and strategies associated with the Solution Focused Approach.
  3. Describe the differences between the Solution Focused Approach and problem focused psychotherapy approaches.
Course Description:

The number one thing that separates the Solution Focused Approach from other, more problem focused, approaches is a focus on the outcome the client wants to achieve instead of on the problems that brought the client into care. For many professionals this shift can be a challenge to master, as it is the direct opposite of our training. However, once mastered, the Solution Focused Approach can have a profound impact on the client and also the professional using the approach. This lecture will demystify this way of working so that the attendees will be able to take what they learn and immediately apply the lessons learned in their work with clients immediately. This lecture will feature interactive demonstrations, video examples and lecture from the presenter.

Course Outline:
  • Introductions
  • Lecture covering the Solution Focused Diamond
  • Lecture and demonstration of:
    • Desired Transformation
    • History of the outcome
    • Resource Talk
    • Ending a Session
