Beyond Burnout Prevention: Optimizing Therapist Performance to Improve Client Outcomes Course Objectives and Description:

Course Objectives:

  1. Identify three impacts of burnout on client outcomes.
  2. Describe four variables that positively impact the therapeutic alliance.
  3. Assess three changes to their treatment systems to improve therapy delivery to clients.

Course Description:

Running on empty is not just bad for us, it’s bad for our clients. Although the majority of therapist training and continuing education is focused on clinical work and clients, strong research suggests that the therapeutic alliance and how the therapist shows up has a huge impact on whether clients get better or even stay in therapy. As therapists, WE are important to how well our clients do, not just which clinical intervention we decide to use. We need to look beyond patching ourselves up and jumping back into the therapy room. We must optimize our performance so we can be our best in the room. Only when we take care of ourselves (and advocate for systemic changes) can we truly do the work we signed up to do.
