Choose Courage
Choose Courage – Do you believe this? For the most part, I think it’s true.
Courage is defined as
1. “the ability to do something that frightens one. ‘she called on all her courage to face the ordeal’
2. Strength in the face of pain or grief ‘he fought his illness with great courage’
3. strength of mind to carry on in spite of danger and the moral courage to speak out against injustice when no one else will.
Synonyms for courage include audacity, backbone, boldness, bravery, chivalry, daring, dauntless, determined, fearless, fortitude, galant, grit, guts, heroism, moxie, intrepid, nerve, prowess, resolute, spirit, spunk, tenacity, valor, verve, and virtue.
Rarely do courage and comfort ever coexist. Courage is uncomfortable. It’s messy. But, the payoff is huge. As a therapist, I’ve noticed that I am now in the habit of telling my clients that their choices include either pay ing now or paying later. Either you put in hard work, experience discomfort and demonstrate courage in the beginning or you most certainly will be required to do so later in life. Perhaps even more so. We are free to make our own choices but that means we’ve also chosen the consequences.
In my experience and observation, I’ve concluded that it’s a lot easier to be uncomfortable as a result of hard work in the beginning rather than delaying it to later in life. The consequences can be quite exponential. Have the courage now to be uncomfortable while investing in yourself, your dreams, and ultimately your future. Thanks for taking the time to read and I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
